Bracken
Most common fern. Strong and coarse. One of the earliest to appear and
continues to produce new leaves all season. Grows in to large colony.
NOT for small garden areas, it will take over! Likes dryer soil. |

Christmas
Best of the evergreen ferns. Height of 1-2 ft. Deep in rich color
leaflets which are lance-shaped in dense clusters. Needs at least
partial shade. Root- 2” |

Cinnamon
(2nd most popular)
Its first folliage looks like cinnamon sticks. The leaves that come
later are a deep waxy green. Grows 2-3 ft. rapidly. Comes up in late
April, and dormant in Sept. Takes partial sun as long as soil is damp!
First year 2+ feet tall! Root is 2-3 inches, shaped like a ball. |

Hayscented
Has a smokey gray-green tint. Smells like hay. Likes moist soil with
slight acid content. Likes shade, Grows 2-3’. |

Lady
Has a bright green-yellow cast with wide deep cut leaves. Likes a
partial shade and moist soil. Grows about 1-2 feet tall. Root is 1-2
inches long. |

Leatherwood
A very pretty fern which is also semi-evergreen. Avery dark green color.
It is sometimes used by florists. Grows 2-3 feet high and likes
semi-shade. |

Maidenhair
One of the most delicate ferns. Has a lacy soft green leaf with dark
centers. Grows very fast and gets to 12-18”. Likes light to medium
shade. Root is 2-inches. Dies back in Sept. |

Royal Fern
Dark green leaves, red stem. Great for wetlands. A lage fern at 4-5
feet. |

A glade fern. About 3 foot tall. Extremely hardy, and a fast grower. |

Toothed Wood
Almost an evergreen. Dies when new frond appears. Reaches 10-24” in
height. Root is 2” long. NEEDS some sun. |

One of the smallest ferns. Grows about 8” tall. Good around small trees
and often used around water gardens. |
