          *****  Publisher's Notes *****

Here in Michigan, we've almost ended our drought... 'Some'
rain, and at least cooler weather...   Daughter, Stacy, has been
camping and doing overnight things with her youth group.  I had
no idea what film cost!   Those little disposable camera don't come
cheap!   We gave her a nice 35 mm for Christmas... it's in
several pieces already...

Too many viruses out there, lately!   Our Norton virus scan does a
good job for us, though.  It's a pain, though, we get so much email
from all of you.   With that in mind, the "Email" tip below should be
helpful to you.

***** New Outdoor Lighting Kits and Prices! *****

Outdoor lighting prices have dropped considerably!  Thanks to our
increase volume, our 'multiplier' from Vista has changed, and we
have passed all of the savings on to you.  Being inspired, we not
only lowered the price of our basic kit, but created a second larger
kit, that includes some higher wattage spots, and a larger (600 Watt)
transformer.   Please feel free to customize/build your own kit.
We enjoy helping, and don't want to discourage that.  To check
out the new kits:

own kit, check out our Vista Catalog page:

        ***** Water Gardening Tips *****

To determine the gallons of water in a pond:
Multiply average length x average width x average depth
x 7.5 = gallons of water.   This is necessary when you add
bacteria, algae buster, etc.

Your pond should have shade!!!   If not, cover 40-60% of the
surface with water lillies.  (It will look beautiful, too!)  Keep
your plants in pots, and in the winter move them to the center
of the pond and they will winter just fine.  Make sure your pond
is 18-24" deep.   Plant a tree near by to give added shade.

Very large ponds also need an aerator / fountain to combat weeds,
algae, and add oxygen.

***** Feedback - Impulse Sprinklers vs Gear Driven *****

"Richard" wrote asking about repairing, replacing some of the
old impulse sprinklers in his yard.  Ouch!   Those old "ker-chunkers"
sound nice when they water the yard, but are a repairman's nightmare.
Impulse sprinklers allow dirt to fall in the top, and score the riser,
and grass grows into the top, effectively stopping it from rotating.
Replacing them invites this to happen again. (And it WILL, never
fear.)   I don't know of any installers in this area that use impulse
sprinklers.   Now-a-days everyone installs Gear Driven Rotors.  They
run silently, and seal the dirt out.  They will almost last forever.
It is a pain making the switch, though.  'Impulses' usually are plumbed
in from the side of the sprinkler body, and 'rotors' from the bottom.
It is well worth the extra effort and fittings to switch to rotors.  There's
nothing worse then having an automatic system that when you get to
that really hot dry weather you get brown spots all over your yard from
impulse sprinklers no longer turning, having grass and dirt hanging
them up!

      ***** Important Email Tip! *****

Viruses make a busy emailer so cranky!   (That's me.)   So many
of the viruses out there copy themselves to your comuter, and then
send out random emails to EVERYONE in your address book.  (WITH
the virus attached.)

Here's how to combat the problem:  (If you don't think it's a problem,
then you probably HAVE a virus, have out-dated virus software, and
have infected ALL of your friends, who also have outdated software.)

   1) NEVER open an attachment on an email that you didn't expect.
Even from your friends...  We have to stop sending attachments unless
we email FIRST that we will be sending an attachment.   The viruses
copy a line like:  "Here, this cute picture is for you!" and since it's
from your friend, you open it, and are infected...

   2)  Update your virus definition files right now.   If you don't know how,
call someone to come and help you, or buy all new software and then
update those with the directions in the box.  Even NEW software
will need updated virus definitions.

   3)  Stop adding everyone to your address book.   I know, this hurts...
Most email software, Outlook Express, etc. come with the default setting
to "Put people I reply to in my Address Book".   You probably have
hundreds or thousands of addresses in your address book that you don't
need or want.   These are what virus hacks are feeding on and using to
spread there crime.   To stop auto adding to your address book:
(This is for Outlook Express, Netscape is very similar.)

From your INBOX:
        a) In your Tools menu, select "options"
        b) click on the "send" tab.
        c) UNCHECK the box "auto-add replies to my address book"
        d)  IMPORTANT- click APPLY first, then click okay.  Thank You!!!

When you are unknowingly infected with a virus, it will send itself to every
one in your book.  Sometimes once, sometimes everytime you go online.
Those receiving those emails, (ME) have to take forever to check our email,
because our Anti-Virus software is forever popping up and making us deal
with those infected emails...  We update our software often, and don't have
any trouble, but if everyone kept only their close friends in there address
book, there would be no virus troubles.   We'll be changing the address of
this newsletter soon, so a reply will not bring it back to us, but to a remote
address.  Feel free, as always, to contact  us HERE as we
love to here from you!    Thousands of you have added us to your address
book, I bet, as often folks reply to the newsletter to ask a question.   Therein
lies the problem.   We could take all the incentive out of virus writing if we
didn't make it so fun for the writers...  Microsoft and AOL, are you listening?
A simple address book with a limit before you HAD to at least create a
new folder or group and be aware of the address you have on file, would do it...

Update your files and run your virus scan with the NEW

update!

  Saying of the Day

"We must believe in luck. For how else can we explain
the success of those we don't like?" - Jean Cocteau

"Random Thoughts for the Not So Perfect Relationship"

You were meant for me, perhaps as a punishment.

I know how to push all my wife's buttons ... now if I could
only find the one marked OFF!

Looking back over the years that we've been together,
I can't help but wonder: what was I thinking?

As the days go by, I think of how lucky I am that you're
not here to ruin it for me.

I knew the day would come when you would leave me for my
best friend.  So here's his leash, water bowl and chew toys.

I'm so miserable without you, it's almost like you're here.

Thanks for reading!
