we pass
on to you. Ferns- Hayscented and Christmas, 1/3 off, Daylily- Gold Nugget (yellow-gold) 1/3 off, Woodland Flowers- May Apple (one of my favorites) 1/3 off, and Trillium Mixed Colors, $30. off. If you've wanted to try true woodland flowers, (wildflowers) try these last two. May Apple are very easy to grow. Trillium a little harder but especially rewarding when they bloom in mixed colors. ~ Church Humor ~
Reverend Henry Ward Beecher entered Plymouth Church one
Sunday and found several letters awaiting him. He opened one and found it contained the single word, "Fool." Quietly and with becoming seriousness he shared the letter with the congregation and announced: "I have known many an instance of a person writing a letter and forgetting to sign his name, but this is the only instance I have ever known of someone signing his name and forgetting to write the letter."
~ About Water Gardening ~
It's that time of year when experienced water gardeners
are
firing up their ponds, and planning new ones. And many folks are considering diving into ponding for the first time. The most common question we get about ponding is: "How hard is it?" Many people are afraid to take that first step. Different types of filtering systems are available, many different theories about ecosystems are out there, with the result being mass confusion.
Here I can set everything to rest. You can trust
Mother
Nature. If it weren't easy, water gardening wouldn't have become the craze that it is. Some quick tips to help you decide to take the plunge:
Bigger is better. Getting up to that 11 X 16 size
helps
your natural ecosystem set up.
The chances of your liner developing a leak are
practically
nil. Just be careful, and don't let anything cut it. Once it's installed, you're pretty safe. Don't used cut or split stone to line the bottom of it... use round 1" or 1-3" drain stone, available everywhere.
Yes, you should line your pond with stone. Your
bacteria
that clean your pond will live in the stone. No, you don't need to keep changing the filters. Your bacteria live on the filters, too, in fact they are in greatest number there, so only change filters when they are slowing down the water flow. That should be yearly, or even less often.
Only the center third of your pond should be 24" deep.
The
middle third should only be about 18", and the edges should be a 12" and slope up to the edge. It's really not that big of a hole.
Adding aquatic plants, fish, landscaping, rocks,
boulders, patio,
fountain, and gazebo can be spread out over a few or many years. That's the hobby part of it. You might find you are never done, or you may find you need a second pond...
A complete kit, with liner, pump, piping, fittings,
sealant,
waterfall stone, skimmer and stone cover, underlayment, BioFalls (water fall filtration system), check valve, filters, catch nets, underwater light, is available here: http://www.greatlakeslandscaping.net/watergardens.htm ~ Email Tip: Quick Attachments ~
If you are like me, and are forever send Word documents
to people, customers, or letters to friends, you can easily attach them to an email. There's a great shortcut to this, instead of opening your email software, starting an email, then browsing though endless folders looking for where you just saved your document/letter.
Simply go to your start menu, go to "Documents" and the
last 10 or 15 documents you have been using are displayed. "Right Click" and in the menu select "Send to" and then select "Mail Recipient". Your email software will create an email with that document already attached! Simple. You can also "Right Click" in any window on a document, too.
Why would you want to send a Word document as a letter
attached to an email? Word documents print much nicer, and don't have that annoying email To and From and Subject stuff at the top. If you think your recipient might want to print your letter to save it, they'll appreciate a Word attachment. I like to copy and paste the Word into the email, as well as attach it. Then the recipient has a choice. One caution: If you like to spiff up your documents with color and graphics, backgrounds, and music, they can make a rather slow and annoying download, too!
